The use of GLYMO (3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane) as a coupling agent in mineral-filled plastics improves filler dispensability, reduces its sedimentation tendency and greatly lowers the resin’s viscosity. 
In addition 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane leads to higher filler loading and a marked increase in water (vapor) resistance as well as resistance to acids and bases. 
As a component of adhesives and sealants 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane improves both adhesion to the substrate and mechanical properties such as flexural strength, tensile strength and modulus of elasticity.

3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is primary used as chemical intermediate and as adhesion promoter in coatings. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is a kind of coupling agent with epoxy group. It can be used as caulking glue or sealant of polysulfide and polyurethane and as adhesive of epoxy resin. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane can enhance the electrical properties of epoxy resin-based sealants, packaging materials, and printed circuit boards. It can also be used to improve the cohesiveness of caulking glue and sealant with water containing acrylic latex used in polyurethane and epoxy resin coatings. It can improve the solubility, dispersity and fluidity of adhesive when put it into the organic toner. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is used as cross-linking agent and adhesion promoter in commercially-available silicone sealant products.


3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, [3-(2,3-Epoxypropoxy)propyl]trimethoxysilane -3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane is a kind of epoxy silane coupling agent. 
Epoxy can react with many kinds of resins. While, the Si-OH formed after the hydrolysis of the trimethoxy can have condensation reaction with the hydroxyl on the surface of the inorganic materials. 
Thus erected between inorganic materials and resins, ”molecular bridge”, to play a role in coupling. 
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is a colorless and transparent, low viscosity liquid, somewhat similar to the smell of rosin. 
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is soluble in aliphatic solvents and aromatic solvents such as alcohol, ether, and ketones. 
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is also soluble in water, however, hydrolysis occurs. Hydrolysates are not stable, and the storage period is short.

Silane Coupling Agents 
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is the first widely used coupling agent and has been used for 40 years. 
One end of its structure with reactive groups such as amino and vinyl, can react with epoxy, phenolic, polyester and other synthetic resin molecules. 
The other end is alkoxy (such as methoxy, ethoxy etc.) or chlorine atoms which is connected with silicon. 
These groups can be transformed into silanol in the hydrolysis in water solution or damp air. 
And the formed silanol is able to react with surface hydroxyl of glass, minerals and inorganic filler. 
Therefore, silane coupling agent is commonly used in silicate-filled epoxy, phenolic, polyester resin and other systems. 
In addition, it can also be used for FRP production, in order to improve its mechanical strength and resistance to wet environment. 
The organic groups of the silane coupling agent are selective about the reaction of the synthetic resin. 
Generally, these organic groups lack sufficient reactivity with synthetic resins such as polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, and thus the coupling effect for them is poor. 
In recent years, new varieties of silane coupling agents with better coupling for polyolefins have been developed, but are limited in cost and other properties and are not yet widely used.
Silane coupling agent is also known as silane treatment agent. 
Its general formula is Y (CH2) nSiX3. 
Wherein n is an integer of 0 to 3; X is a hydrolyzable group such as chlorine, methoxy, ethoxy and acetoxy; Y is an organic functional group such as a vinyl, an amino, an epoxy group, a methacryloyloxy group and sulfydryl.

(3-Glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) is a bifunctional organosilane with three methoxy groups on one side and an epoxy ring on the other. 
The methoxy groups bind well with glass substrates creating a 3D matrix. The epoxy group is reactive with amides, alcohols, thiols and acids. 
GPTMS is highly reactive in water and can be used as a linking agent between the surface of the silica and the polymeric matrix


Application
GPTMS is widely used as a silica precursor. GPTMS alone with tetraethylortosilicate (TEOS) can be blended with chitosan for use as a filler for polymeric scaffold for bone tissue engineering.
It can also be coated on the surface of aluminium alloy to protect from corrosion
GPTMS can used to functionalize (wrap) multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) which can be used as s a reinforcement in epoxy matrix nanocomposites.

It is epoxy functional silane used as adhesion promoters in SPUR, urethane, epoxy, polysulfide, silicone, and acrylic caulks, coatings, sealants and adhesives.


Features and Benefits:
1, With Epoxy Functionality
    A). Epoxy ring is reactive with many organic functionalities.
   B). Epoxy functionality will offer non-yellowing adhesion in many resin systems.

Potential Applications: 

(1) Used to improve the adhesion between the surface of organic material and inorganic material, for 
example, the treatment of the glass fabric in glass steel and the silicon stuffing in plastic, rubber, paint, 
coating, etc. 

(2) Used in adhesive to strengthen the adhesion. The suitable resin include epoxy, phenol aldehyde, 
melamine, polysulfide, polyamino ester, polystyrene, etc. 

(3) Improve the adhesion between inorganic stuffing, base material and resins, hence improve the 
mechanical strength, electric property of composite material and high retention in wet state. 

(4) As the surface treating agent of inorganic stuffing, widely used in pottery clay, talcum powder, silicon 
grey clay, white carbon black, silica, aluminum powder, iron powder, etc. 

(5) As epoxy sealing agent to stuff silica, epoxy concrete remedy material or coating to stuff sand 
and epoxy mould material to stuff metal. 

(6) Improve the adhesion of double-component epoxy sealing agent, acrylic acid latex, 
sealing agent, polyamino ester, epoxy coating.

Applications

1.3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (CAS NO.2530-83-8)(A-187, KBM-403, OFS-6040, GLYMO) is a kind of coupling agent with epoxy group. It can be used as caulking glue or sealant of polysulfide and polyurethane and as adhesive of epoxy resin.
2.This product can also be used in thermosetting resin of filling or reinforcement mode, glass fiber adhesive and thermoplastic resin of inorganic filler or glass reinforcement, etc. It can be used to improve the intensity properties of hard composite materials which use glass fiber roving as reinforcement. It keeps the intensity at maximum point after humidity period.
3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane can enhance the electrical properties of epoxy resin-based sealants, packaging materials, and printed circuit boards. It is capable of improving the adhesiveness between fillers or between resin and matrix.
3.This product can enhance electrical properties of composite materials of inorganic filling, including nylon and polybutylene terephthalate. It is effective to various fillers, matrix, clay, talc, aedelforsite, silica and quartz, or metals like aluminum, cooper and iron.
4.3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (CAS NO.2530-83-8)(A-187, KBM-403, OFS-6040, GLYMO) can also be used to improve the cohesiveness of caulking glue and sealant with water containing acrylic latex used in polyurethane and epoxy resin coatings. It can improve the solubility, dispersity and fluidity of adhesive when put it into the organic toner.


Application:

1. As epoxy coupling agent, 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane is used in polysulfide-based and metal-filled epoxide resinous material.

2. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane improves the adhesion between inorganic stuffing, base material and resin, hence improve the mechanical strength, electric property of composite material and high retention in wet state.

3. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane improves the electrical properties of many composite materials, including inorganic-filled Nylon and PBT. It can be widely used in many fillers and substrates such as clay, talcum, tricalcium silicate, silica, quartz, and aluminum, copper, and iron. Including quartz-filled epoxy sealants, grail-filled epoxy resin, concrete patching material or coatings, toner of modeling kits, and improving the dispersivity, fluidity of adhesive.

4. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane avoids the need of independent primer in polysulfide and polyurethane sealant and sealing compounds.

5. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane improves the adhesion of double-component epoxy sealing agent, acrylic acid latex, sealing agent, polyamino ester, epoxy resin. It is used in organic and polyurethane adhesive and sealant, epoxy resin adhesives, filled or enhanced thermoset.
