Besides, the effect of temperature and salinity on interfacial activity and emulsification properties of APG was also studied. 
The results showed that APG had excellent interfacial activity and emulsification property among all these surfactants. 
Besides, the interfacial activity and emulsification properties of APG almost did not decrease, and even got better along with the increasing temperature or salinity, while those of other surfactants became worse in different degree. 
The incremental oil recovery by using APG at 90 °C and the salinity of 30 g/L can reach to 10.1% which is nearly two times higher than that of common EOR surfactants. 
These results indicated that APG is an efficient surfactant for enhancing heavy oil recovery at high-temperature and high-salinity condition.

Preparation and characterization of microemulsions consisting of a plant-derived alkyl polyglycoside (APG) surfactant and the essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) was studied.
This nonionic APG surfactant used was Triton CG-110 with a CMC at 1748 ppm at 25 ◦C. 
Tea tree oil (TTO) was extracted from tea tree leaves by Triton CG-110-assisted hydrodistillation method.
The preparation of the microemulsion was aided by the construction of pseudo-ternary phase diagrams, which were investigated at the different weight ratios of surfactant mixtures (Smix = Triton CG-110/PPG) as 0.6:1, 1.8:1, 1:0 with hydrodistilled and commercial TTO by water titration method at room temperature. 
Particularly, structure of microemulsion was identified by electrical conductivity and viscosity. 
Moreover, shelf stability of some microemulsion made of 1% TTO with various concentration of Triton CG-110/PPG (1.8:1 w/w) were monitored for over a two-month period with dynamic light scattering. 
These results showed that microemulsion made of 1% TTO, 9% Triton CG-110/PPG (1.8:1 w/w) was insensitive with time and temperature of storage.

Alkyl polyglucosides are non-ionic surfactants which are mainly used in laundry detergents, hard surface cleaners and personal care products. 
Two in vitro screening test systems were used to investigate the endocrine modulating potential of alkyl polyglucosides. 
No indications were observed for any estrogenic or anti-estrogenic effects in an MCF-7 E-Screen assay and a reporter gene assay using luciferase-transfected MCF-7 cells. 
Concentrations exceeding the effect concentration of estradiol by a factor of 1000 did not reveal any indication for an estrogenic activity. 
Furthermore, in a combination assay investigating the effects of estradiol in the presence of alkyl polyglucoside, no anti-estrogenic potential was observed. 
Potential embryo-/fetotoxicity and/or teratogenicity was investigated in a segment II study in rats. 
No effects were noted up to the limit dose of 1000 mg/kg bw/day. 
All parameters of the treatment groups were comparable with those of the control group. 
Skeletal and visceral investigations did not detect any treatment-related malformations. 
For the embryo/fetotoxicity, the teratogenicity and the maternal toxicity a NOAEL of 1000 mg/kg was deduced.

Alkyl polyglycoside Safety Information: 
The safety of Decyl Glucoside, Arachidyl Glucoside, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Cetearyl Glucoside, Coco-Glucoside, Ethyl Glucoside and Lauryl Glucoside has been assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel. 
The CIR Expert Panel evaluated the scientific data and concluded that these ingredients were safe for use in cosmetics when formulated to be non-irritating.

The CIR Expert Panel reviewed a study that indicated that Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside (alkyl chain length: a mixture of 8 and 10 carbons in length) was not readily absorbed through the skin. 
At high concentrations Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside was irritating and long-term skin irritation resulted in other adverse effects including body weight loss. 
No other adverse effects were observed at concentrations that did not cause skin irritation. 
Lauryl Glucoside was not a reproductive or developmental toxicant. 
Alkyl glucoside ingredients have not been found to be genotoxic. 
Clinical tests of products containing alkyl glucoside ingredients have found that the products were not dermal irritants or sensitizers.

The major class of sugar-based surfactants is alkyl polyglycosides. 
Alkyl polyglycosides are characterised by a saccharide unit and a hydrophobic alkyl chain. 
These surfactants differ in the alkyl chain length, both linear and mono-branched, and in the degree of polymerisation (DP) of the saccharide. 
The biodegradation pathway of alkyl polyglycosides has not been elucidated. 
Polyglycoside alkanoic acids, possible intermediates of ω- and β-oxidation of the alkyl chain, were not detected during degradation of alkyl polyglycosides in a fixed-bed reactor. 
Based on this finding, Eichhorn et al.
hypothesised that alkyl polyglycosides are degraded through a central cleavage. 
Central cleavage results in the formation of saccharides and fatty acids. 
The alkyl polyglycosides tested are biodegraded in excess of 60% in the Sturm and Closed Bottle tests.

EFFICIENT HARD SURFACE CLEANING
Modern hard surface cleaners have to be tough on dirt but kind to surfaces, leaving them shiny and free from residues. 
The APG sugar surfactants offer extraordinary cleaning efficiency, whether used singly or in combination with other surfactants. 
The cleaning performance of APG has been evaluated through consumer-relevant methods such as the Gardner test. 
In this evaluation APG showed a soil removal capability of an oily soil of up to 70 percent in comparison to other nonionic surfactants. 
Moreover this score was achieved even without any further additions. 
APG is also compatible with all kind of surfactants and it shows synergistic effects with them, meaning that their cleaning performance can be further enhanced by the addition of other non-ionic surfactants and/or other components. 
Alkyl polyglycosides high cleaning performance level is also virtually unaffected by changes in the pH value.
