DETDA is a sterically hindered aromatic diamine, and the steric hindrance of ethyl and methyl groups makes Diethyltoluenediamine much less reactive than toluene diamine (TDA).
Diethyltoluenediamine reacts with polyurethane prepolymer faster than DMTDA several times faster than MOCA about 30 times faster.
Mainly used in RIM polyurethane system and spray polyurethane (urea) elastomer coating system, with fast response, demold time is short, the initial high strength, product hydrolysis resistance, heat and so on.
In addition Diethyltoluenediamine can also be used as an elastomer for reaction injection molding polyurethane chain extenders, polyurethane coatings, epoxy resin, alkyd curing agent.
Lubricants and pesticides, dyes intermediates, plastics, rubber, oil antioxidant, and chemical synthesis intermediates.

DETDA can also be used as a reactive catalyst in the curing process.
When the proper amount is added to polyols, DETDA accelerates the curing speed.
This bigger-than-normal “catalyst” quantity avoids the sensitivity when using a small stream catalyst, and Diethyltoluenediamines shelf life is much longer than metal based catalysts.

Diethyl toluenediamine (DETDA), is also commonly known in the polyurethane industry by the brand names Ethacure 100, Lonza DETDA 80, and Nitroil ADA I80.
One of the commonly used workhorses in polyurethane industry, DETDA has low viscosity and is easy to handle.
Diethyltoluenediamines unmatched liquidity character enables manufacturers to perform room temperature processing and curing.
DETDA also offers excellent dynamic properties comparable to 4,4'-Methylenebis(2-chloroaniline), also known as MOCA, but with less toxicity and dust concerns in the production plant.
Diethyltoluenediamines fast curing leaves little room for environmental factors like humidity and oxidation to affect the quality of products featuring DETDA.
DETDA is widely used in reaction injection molding (RIM) and the spray polyurea field.
In these applications, DETDA allows the flexibility of using itself as a liquid carrier and solvent for other solid curatives like MOCA, for example, and makes Diethyltoluenediamine possible to bring variety of needed properties into the final product.

DETDA coloring is a reflection of Diethyltoluenediamines impurity level and stability: the azobenzene resulting from arylamine reacted with UV and oxygen, affected by impurity level.
Azobenzene has a long-range electron resonance with aromatic region to emit a strong color absorption.

DETDA is a kind of steric aromatic diamine chain extender, a low-viscosity, non-toxic, odorless liquid.
Diethyltoluenediamine can enhance the product’s strength and hydrolysis resistance, which enhances the production efficiency and makes the industrialization of complex PU products impossible.
Quick reaction speed of DETDA and isocyanate is particularly applied to solvent-free, fast-curing coating.
Diethyltoluenediamine also can be used as epoxy, alkyd resin curing agent, rubber and oil antioxygen, dye and pesticide intermediate, and is a kind of new promising chemical product.
