Melapur 200 provide lower smoke density and effective flame resistance as well as meeting the following demands:
-Halogen Free
-Metal Free
-Less corrosion
-Can be used alone or in conjunction with other flame-retardant additives.
-Grades suitable for the demands of intumescent coatings.
Melapur 200 uses the following mechanisms to provide flame retardancy:
-Char formation
-Cooling
-Flame poisoning
-Oxygen dilution
-Intumescence
Melapur 200 flame retardants:
Melapur 200 flame retardant decomposes endothermically above 350ºC, acting as a heat sink to cool the polymer.
The released phosphoric acid further reacts with the polymer to form a char and inhibit the release of free radical gasses into the oxygen phase.
Simultaneously, nitrogen species released from the degradation of melamine intumesces the char to further protect the polymer.
Melapur 200 flame retardant was originally developed to suit the high processing temperatures associated with the compounding of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastics.
Over time, Melapur 200 flame retardants have also evolved into other applications, either replacing existing flame retardant systems, such as ammonium polyphosphate (APP) or permitting development of new formulations such as flame retardant epoxy resins or phenolic resins with improved flame retardancy
Melapur MC flame retardants – for electrical applications:
Melapur MC grades are compatible with polyamides, polyurethanes and thermoplastic Polyurethanes.
They can be stable up to 320 ºC, at which point they undergo an endothermic reaction, acting as a flame retardant and diluting the oxygen present.
Melapur MP flame retardants – for Intumescent and fibre reinforced formulations:
Based on melamine phosphate, combining both the melamine and catalyst functionality, it can be used in a wide range of coatings formulations as well as thermosets, unsaturated polyester and epoxies.
Melapur 200 flame retardants – for glass fibre reinforced polyamide:
Melapur 200 works much like the MP range but with polyphosphate and melamine.
Therefore these are designed for higher temperatures.
Melamine polyphosphate is a halogen-free Flame Retardant, and have very high thermal stability.
The decomposition temperature ≥360℃.
Melapur 200 can be widely applied in thermoplastic and thermosetting plastics, and rubber, fiber, and so on .
The trend towards more stringent requirements for flame retardancy in aircraft interiors, with concerns about increased regulatory requirements for halogenated flame retardants, is forcing developments in the direction of non-halogenated alternatives.
Regulatory compatibility:
-Halogen, antimony and metal free flame retardants
-Allows finished products to conform to eco-labels
Protection throughout product lifecycle:
-Lower smoke density
-Less corrosive to processing equipment
-Reduces ancillary damage to equipment and material in case of fire
Offers flexibility in uses of Melapur 200:
