NIPACIDE CI

Nipacide CI
Chemical name: Chlor-methyl and methyl isothiazolinone
CMIT/MIT 14 %

5-Chloro-2-methyl-2,3-dihydroisothiazol-3-one and 2-Methyl-2,3-dihydroisothiazol-3-one (3:1)
Concentration : 14 %
CAS number : 55965-84-9
EINECS number : 247-500-7

Description;
Nipacide CI is a concentrated CMIT/MIT water based biocide, developed for the complete in-can protection of water based products.
Nipacide CI is effective against a wide range of microorganisms including gram positive and gram negative bacteria, yeast and fungi.
Microorganisms grow at a rapid rate and without use of the correct biocide, numbers can increase dramatically.

Use level;
Nipacide CI should be evaluated in finished products at levels between 0.01% and 0.03%.
Please note, however, that the use of Nipacide CI above 0.01% requires R43 (causes sensitization by skin contact) hazard labeling.
If labeling is an issue it is recommended you consider an alternative Clariant biocide, either CMIT/MIT free or a CMIT/MIT combination biocide eg Nipacide CFX 4 or Nipacide IB

Microbiological data;
Nipacide CI has a broad spectrum of activity which is demonstrated by the following MIC data.
MIC Levels Organism MIC (ppm)

Bacteria
Pseudomonas aeruginosa 40
Pseudomonas putida 25
Proteus vulgaris 90
Escherichia coli 70
Staphylococcus aureus 110
Fungi
Aspergillus niger 15
Penicillium mineoluteum 15
Fusarium solani 15
Geotrichum candidum 30

Yeast
Candida albicans 50

Applications;
Nipacide CI is recommended for preservation of a wide range of applications including water based /Latex/PVA adhesives, PVA / Acrylic polymer emulsions, water based decorative paints, printing inks, metal working fluids and construction admixtures.
Nipacide CI is effective against a wide range of common spoilage organisms.
Thermal and pH stability for Nipacide CI is a critical consideration and it should not be use for products with pH >8.5 or production temperatures of >40 0C.
Great care should be taken when using this material due to its corrosive nature and Nipacide CI 15 should be a serious consideration for most applications as a dilute, safer to handle, alternative.
Nipacide CI can also be used for reduction in microbial spoilage of industrial water cooling systems.

Chemical compatibility;
Nipacide CI is compatible with most raw materials used in the manufacture of industrial products. Nipacide CI compatibility should always be checked and evaluated before use.
