APPLICATION PROPERTIES OF QUARTAMIN AB:
-QUARTAMIN AB performs as antistatic, softener and conditioner in hair rinse formulations and can also be used as conditioning additive for “2 in 1” shampoos.
-QUARTAMIN AB is compatible with cationic, non-ionic and amphoteric surfactants, and it can be mixed with them in different compositions.
-QUARTAMIN AB as other quaternary ammonium salts shouldn’t be compatible with soaps and anionic surfactants, but it has been checked that using it as additive (0.5% max.), some transparent and stable final products can be obtained, depending on the composition of the shampoo.
STORAGE – HANDLING – SHELF LIFE OF QUARTAMIN AB:
-QUARTAMIN AB is chemically stable for a long period of time under appropriate storage conditions (temperature of 25ºC and original unopened container).
-Keep QUARTAMIN AB protected from air and humidity. Due to QUARTAMIN AB's hygroscopic properties it is advisable to maintain the packaging well closed to avoid water adsorption or solvent evaporation.
-The shelf life of QUARTAMIN AB can be considered of 2 years minimum under proper storage conditions. After longer storage time some of its characterising parameters (odour, appearance, colour, pH…), should be checked before using it.
-For safety reasons, QUARTAMIN AB must be stored in areas with good ventilation and conditioned for flammable products.
-Storage temperature of QUARTAMIN AB must be always below 40ºC.

QUARTAMIN AB, also known as docosyltrimethylammonium chloride or BTAC-228, is a yellow waxlike organic compound with chemical formula CH3(CH2)21N(Cl)(CH3)3, used as an antistatic agent and, sometimes, a disinfectant.
QUARTAMIN AB is commonly found in cosmetics such as conditioners, hair dye, and mousse, and also in detergents.
Laboratory tests of QUARTAMIN AB have indicated that it does not readily biodegrade.
