TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170 is a nonionic Soil Release Polyester for household and industrial products.

Physical properties of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
TexCare SRN-100 is a water-soluble soil release polyester which was developed especially for application in liquid detergents and cleaners.
At present TexCare SRN-100 is available in two concentrations: 100% waxy form and 70% aqueous solution, coded as SRN-170.
TexCare SRN-170 is a light brown clear liquid water-soluble soil release polyester which was developed especially for application in liquid detergents and cleaners.

TexCare SRN 170 is a water-soluble nonionic soil release polymer exhibiting top formulability and compatibility with liquid detergents and cleaners.
Due to its nonionic character, TexCare SRN 170 detergent polymer exhibits a broad tolerance to the most common surfactant systems.

Applications of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
TexCare SRN 170 is a soil release polymer and a rheology modifier.
TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170 is a soil release for liquid and powder detergents which delivers fabric hydrophilization and reduction of soil redepositioning in liquid laundry formulations.

As a rheology modifier it reduces effectively the viscosity of hand dishwashing liquids.
Additionally TexCare SRN 170 prevents drying of skin and enhances mildness of formulation.

Performance properties of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:

Soil release effect of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
Fabrics made of polyester and polyester/cotton are difficult to clean when they are soiled with oily or fatty stains.
Such stains adhere strongly to the hydrophobic synthetic fibres, which are also not wetted easily by the washing liquor.
If these fabrics are washed with a detergent containing TexCare SRN 100, the soil release polyester is adsorbed on the hydrophobic fibres and forms a hydrophilic film.

This prevents the soil from adhering directly to the fibres.
Furthermore, the affinity of hydrophobic soils for the hydrophilic film is reduced significantly compared to the untreated fibres.
This makes it much easier to remove oily stains from the fabric during subsequent washing.
The soil release effect was tested on polyester/cotton using the Dirty motor oil test.

Polyester / cotton swatches WFK 20 A were prewashed, adding from 0.5% to 3.0% TexCare SRN 100 to a commercial detergent.
After soiling with dirty motor oil and storing for 1 hour the test swatches were washed again, but without adding TexCare SRN 100.
The remission was then compared to test swatches prewashed without TexCare SRN 100.
The blue line the increase of the remission as a function of the concentration of TexCare SRN 100 in the test detergent used in the prewash.

A significant improvement in soil removal is found beginning with 0.5% TexCare SRN-100 in the detergent with just one prewash.
This means that the hydrophilic protection film formed leads to a good removal of oily and fatty soil, even if TexCare SRN-100 is not used in the wash..
Concentrations of 1% to 2% TexCare SRN-100 are recommended.
Normally it is expected that a detergent with Soil Release Polymer will be used several times for the same laundry until the pack in empty.

Therefore the laundry is washed repeatedly with Soil Release Polymer.
This enables the temporary protection film to be renewed during each wash.
For this reason the Dirty motor oil test was carried out again using the same conditions as before but applying TexCare SRN-100 also to the wash after soiling the test swatches.

The red line in Fig. 1 shows the increase in remission using TexCare SRN-100 before and after soiling the test fabrics, as a function of the concentration in the test detergent.
Because this test was not carried out as a multiple wash, there is hardly any difference between the two lines in Fig. 1.

The multiple wash was used to test the improved detergency as described below.
Improvement of detergency A further benefit of TexCare SRN-100 is the significant improvement of the detergency.
Even without a first "pre-wash" of the fabric to give it a TexCare SRN- 100 finish, soil is removed better from polyester and polyester/cotton.

This was tested with soiled polyester/cotton swatches WFK 20 D (synthetic sebum) which were washed four times at 40°C with a commercial liquid detergent containing 1% TexCare SRN-100.
After each wash the remission was measured.
The increase in remission of the test fabrics achieved by adding TexCare SRN-100.
The results for detergent without additive are shown for comparison.

Further performance properties of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
The addition of TexCare SRN-100 to liquid detergents can lead to a reduction in viscosity.
This effect depends on the composition of the detergent and can be used to lower the viscosity of very viscous formulations.
Furthermore TexCare SRN-100 can act as an emulsifier for poorly water-soluble, hydrophobic substances.

TexCare SRN-100 was developed especially for application in liquid detergents and cleaners that are used for cleaning of hydrophobic surfaces eg, polyester fibres.
TexCare SRN-100 significantly improves the removal of oily and fatty soils.

Recommended applications of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
After melting, the soil release polyester TexCare SRN100 can be incorporated into liquid detergents and cleaners for household and I & I products.

TexCare SRN 170 Terra is a nonionic soil release polymer which was developed especially with a high RC1 superior than 75% for application in liquid detergents and cleaners.
Due to its nonionic character, TexCare SRN 170 Terra exhibits a broad tolerance to the most common surfactant systems.

TexCare SRN 170 Terra can be used in all kinds of liquid detergent formulations, e.g. heavy duty-, color and fine fabric detergents.
TexCare SRN 170 Terra was developed especially for application in liquid detergents and cleaners that are used for cleaning of hydrophobic surfaces eg. polyester fibres and significantly improves the removal of oily and fatty soils.
TexCare SRN 170 Terra can also be formulated into fabric softeners together with cationic surfactants.
In addition, TexCare SRN 170 Terra may be applied in liquid hard surface cleaners.

Storage of TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170:
TexCare SRN 100 can be stored for at least to 2 years in original sealed containers at room temperature under the recommended conditions.
TexCare SRN 100 undergoes no change whatever in it's product properties when exposed to cold during transport and storage.
TexCare SRN 170 can be stored for at least to 6 months in original sealed containers at room temperature under the recommended conditions.

TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170 can become slightly turbid or form a slight precipitation after several weeks.
This is a typical water-soluble polyester and does not affect the efficiency of the product.
At lower temperatures the solution becomes also slightly turbid or crystallizes.

TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170 should be homogenized before usage.
The 70% aqueous TexCare SRN-170 solution is very easy to handle for this purpose.
TEXCARE SRN-100 / SRN-170 is also possible to formulate TexCare SRN-170 into fabric softeners, together with cationic surfactants.
In addition, TexCare SRN-170 may be applied in liquid hard surface cleaners.
