Ethoxylated alcohol formulas such as Lauryl Alcohol are classified as surfactants, which means they reduce surface tension in a liquid, or between a liquid and a solid.
As with all types of ethoxylated alcohol, Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate is a nonionic compound — it has no electrical charge on the hydrophilic end and generally takes the form of a thick liquid that is often sticky to the touch.
The ethoxylation process also tends to increase the water solubility of the material.
Products that typically contain Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate include cosmetics, laundry detergents, surface cleaners and personal care products, to name a few.

The products of the Dehydol LS series are fatty alcohol polyethylene glycol ethers and belong to the class of nonionic surfactants.
Dehydol LS ethoxylates are prepared from a natural-based C12-C14 fatty alcohol and thus are excellent candidates for use in consumer products such as green and environmental friendly cleaners.
The individual grades in the Dehydol LS series a broad spectrum of properties.

In general, the product group is characterized by the following properties:
• High surface activity and detergency
• Synergistic effects with other surfactants
• Good hard water stability
• Chemical stability over a wide pH range
• Produced from a natural-based, renewable raw material
• Low environmental impact as a result of rapid and complete biodegradation
These favourable and widespread properties have opened up numerous fields of application.
The Dehydol LS ethoxylates are effective in detergents & cleaners and also in personal care products or in technical applications.

Dehydol LS ethoxylates are based on a primary linear C12–C14 fatty alcohol.
The alcohol is obtained from oleo oils, e.g. palm kernel oil, by transesterification and hydrogenation reaction.

The solubility of the Dehydol LS alcohol ethoxylates is determined by the chain length of the water soluble ether chain.
Accordingly the solubility increases with increased degree of ethoxylation.
The lower ethoxylates (2–4 moles EO) are only sparingly soluble in water as these molecules are dominated by the hydrophobic alcohol part.
They are soluble in non-polar organic solvents and can be applied therefore as emulsifiers.
The higher ethoxylates are readily soluble in water and they are used predominantly for cleaning applications.

Gel formation with water
Mixtures of water and alcohol ethoxylates like the Dehydol LS surfactants can cover a wide range of viscosities from free flowing liquids to solid gels depending on the amount of water added.
The gel phases typically occur at medium concentrations and can have
significant stability when water is added.
When diluting Dehydol LS products to lower concentrations it is recommendable to avoid these gel phases during processing.
This can be achieved by adding the nonionic surfactant to water, to use warm water and to stir well.
Additional solvents, for example alcohols, but also salts and other electrolytes can help to suppress gel formation.

Dehydol LS 2 Deo N is a laureth-2 polymer used as a nonionic emulsifier for the preparations of oil and cream baths. It is a clear to light turbid liquid.

Product Applications: Bath & Shower, Hair Cleansing, Hand Cleansing, Skin Cleansing

Dehydol LS grades (C12-14 fatty alcohol ethoxylates) are nonionic surfactants.
They are alkyl polyethylene glycol ethers made from saturated native fatty alcohol.
Thus their C-chain is linear and even numbered. They are available with low and medium EO-degree.
The available grades are liquid.
Dehydol LS grades are providing wetting and emulsification properties with a good soil removal property.

Ethoxylated alcohol 2 EO has multiple industrial uses and applications including:

CASE: Use Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate as a wetting agent to reduce the surface tension in liquids, and as an emulsifier in paints and coatings to promote dispersion.
Personal Care: Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate works extremely well as a foaming agent in personal care products such as shampoos and bath gels.
Soaps and Detergents: Lauryl Alcohol serves as a reliable wetting agent in a wide range of industrial and household cleaning products including detergents, laundry pre-spotters and hard surface cleaners.
Surfactants and Esters: You can use Lauryl Alcohol as a surfactant intermediate — it can also be sulfonated to make SLES (Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate), an anionic surfactant and detergent used in the manufacturing of many personal care products.
Textiles: Use Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate as a wetting agent in textile and leather processing applications to reduce surface tension.

Dehydol LS 2 can be stored for at least to 2 years in original sealed containers at room temperature under the recommended conditions.
Protect from exposure to cold during transport and storage.
The properties of Dehydol LS 2 are reversibly altered by exposure to cold.
Dehydol LS 2 becomes turbid, thickens or freezes through exposure to cold, thaw slowly at room temperature and afterwards stir briefly.

Dehydol LS     68439-50-9
(Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate; 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 15 EO)

Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate should be used with extreme caution.
It is harmful if ingested and also poses a hazard to aquatic life.
It is also likely to cause irritation when coming in contact with the eyes or skin.
The product should be stored in a closed container in an area with a temperature ranging from 30-40° C

Alcohol ethoxylates belong to the class of compounds which are synthesized via the reaction of a fatty alcohol and ethylene oxide, resulting in a molecule that consists of two parts one a carbon-rich, fatty alcohol and the second part a hydrophilic, polyoxyethylene chain.

This dual structural aspect of ethoxylated alcohol containing a hydrophobic portion (water-hating) with a hydrophilic component (water-loving), enables them to mix and solubilize oil and water by lowering the interfacial energy associated between them. These properties of ethoxylated alcohol gives them the general connotation of surfactants or surface active agents.

The surfactant action of these ethoxylated alcohol is seen whenever oily substances are exposed to water or any surface.
These alcohol ethoxylate have different properties, like excellent detergency, high and low-foaming, as well as, ethoxylates that are rapid surface-wetting agents.
These Ethoxylated alcohols find use in many industrial practices as detergents, wetting agents, emulsifiers, degreasers and emollients in many lines of commercially available products. These ethoxylated alcohol also serve many commercial markets, like Home & Personal Care products, Agrochemicals, Paints & Coatings, Oil & Gas and Industrial & Institutional Cleaning.

Natural fatty alcohols, differs in its distribution of carbon chains and hence can provide different ethoxylated alcohol structures and properties depending on the plant from which they were extracted. Fatty alcohol ethoxylate are surfactant, which are commonly used as components of cleaning detergents and formulation in the industrial, commercial, and domestic markets. FAEs find large-scale applications in detergents (wetting agents, emulsifiers, personal hygiene products (shampoos, emollients, foam boosters, Viscosity builders), leather (degreasing, wetting), textile paints and agriculture (emulsifiers, dispersion) process.

Example of natural fatty alcohols are lauryl alcohol ethoxylates.

Traditionally, Lauryl Alcohol Ethoxylate (LAE) function as a foaming agent in personal care products such as shampoos and bath gels.
The effective wetting property of LAE finds use in household cleaning products including detergents, laundry pre-spotters and hard surface cleaners.
While in industrial settings like textile and leather processing the wetting property effectively helps, reduce surface tension.
The natural source and biodegradable nature of lauryl alcohol ethoxylate prompts their use in shampoo and liquid detergent formulations for personal care segments.
Several lauryl alcohol ethoxylate find use in personal care and cosmetics as emulsifiers in creams, cleansing agents in shampoos and liquid detergents, solubilizers for fragrances.

The cloud point is a leading parameter for characterizing nonionic surfactants and can be determined by a simple test method, described e.g. in DIN EN 1890.
At a certain temperature, the initially clear solution of an ethoxylate becomes cloudy because a water-immiscible surfactant phase is formed.
This process is reversible, i.e. upon cooling, the solution clarifies again at the same temperature.
The temperature, at which this clouding occurs, is specific for each ethoxylate and is referred to as the cloud point of the surfactant.
The phenomenon of the cloud point can be explained as follows: the solubility of the ethoxylates in water is based on hydration of the oxygen atoms via hydrogen bonds.
Since this hydration decreases with increasing temperature, the solubility of the ethoxylates in water decreases accordingly.
The cloud point is a function of the surfactant concentration and is usually determined using 1% or 2% surfactant solutions.
If the ethoxylate is insoluble or only sparingly soluble in water, the cloud point can also be determined in aqueous butyl diglycol solution.
